A Bridge to 2025 – Role and challenges of DSOs

On 24 September 2015, the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) held an event entitled “A Bridge to 2025: Delivering the Energy Union” on the occasion of the one-year anniversary for the “Bridge to 2025 - Conclusions Paper”.

Gert De Block, CEDEC Secretary General, was invited to participate in the panel “Delivering the new electricity market design and gas liquid markets” as a representative of the different DSO associations.

He explained how the role of DSOs is evolving, how the concept of DSO as neutral market facilitator is getting more acceptance, and highlighted to key elements influencing the DSO role: decentralization and decarbonisation.

In addition, he urged for a clear vision and long-term unambiguous targets to make the right investments and said that with new actors coming in the markets, “we need to define clear roles and responsabilites, and to integrate flexibility in the distribution grid to make it work”.
